Approaching describes a period of real growth: strength genuinely increasing, favorable conditions building on themselves, a leadership position becoming available to step into — momentum that's real and earned, not forced or borrowed against the future to make things look better than they are.

It appears when things are genuinely improving: a project gaining traction, a relationship deepening, more responsibility opening up to you because you've shown you can carry it well. Its counsel carries a built-in caution about timing — growth this favorable tends to continue for a defined stretch before conditions shift again, and complacency is specifically warned against, since the favorable stretch is exactly when it's easiest to stop paying close attention to what's actually sustaining it.

Picture a project or relationship that's been quietly gaining strength for months, to the point where bigger opportunities are starting to appear because of it. This hexagram confirms the growth is real, and its reminder is to use the window deliberately — build in whatever durable value you can, deeper trust, real infrastructure, documentation, while conditions are cooperating, rather than assume the favorable stretch has no natural limit and will simply continue forever on its own.

Approaching follows the repair described in Hexagram 18, which makes intuitive sense: once something broken is genuinely fixed, real growth becomes possible again in a way it couldn't while the old problem was still quietly draining energy underneath everything else. Its line texts describe several stages — early lines favor confident joint effort, middle lines caution against complacent enjoyment, and the top line favors seeking wise guidance even at the height of your own capability, rather than assuming you've outgrown the need for it just because things happen to be going well right now.
